According to reports, Chelsea star Christian Atsu was rescued after becoming trapped under rubble in a massive earthquake.

The father was believed to be on the ninth floor of an apartment building when two earthquakes struck Turkey today, destroying at least 12 cities and killing thousands.

After being caught up in the first powerful 7.8 magnitude quake, rescuers desperately tried to find Ghana star Atsu.

After the earthquake struck at 4 a.m. local time, several members of his new team had to be rescued from their homes.

Taner Savut, the sporting director of Atsu and Hatayspor, was reported missing under the rubble.

The ex-Newcastle winger has been rescued and is being treated in hospital, according to A Bola.

According to the Portuguese outlet, the 31-year-old has right foot injuries and breathing difficulties.

Atsu, who has three children with his wife Marie-Claire, is a midfielder for Hatayspor, which he joined last summer.

The earthquake struck Kahramanmaras, where Hatayspor is based, hard.

Atsu, who scored deep into stoppage time to secure a 1-0 win over Kasimpasa on Saturday, will leave St James’ Park in the summer of 2021 after making 121 appearances for the club.

He joined Chelsea from Porto for £3.5 million in 2013, but he never played for the Premier League giants.

Atsu had loan spells with Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth, Malaga, and Newcastle.

And the Magpies extended his contract in 2017 after he helped them win promotion from the Championship.

Before joining Al-Raed in 2021, the ace made 86 appearances for Newcastle.

Atsu joined Hatayspor last summer and has scored once in four games for the Turkish club.
