He is a diver from Canada. Michael had a never to forget experience with an Octopus off the waters of Port Hardy in Canada.

The octopus attacked the diver  by latching on him for close to a minute.

After the minute after the Octopus strangle him, it let go of the diver, sparing his life in the process.

The diver was at the “Browning Pass Wall” which is said to a hotspot for “sea creature hiding in the cracks and crevices”.
